Writers’ Guidelines for BPJ
If you are interested in writing for Biblical Preaching Journal please refer to the sample as a guide for length, format, etc.
Material should be typed in upper and lower case, double spaced, left justified (not full justified), 12 point (or larger) in a font such as Times, New York, or Courier.
Please do not attempt to duplicate the format of the Journal.
For example, it is not necessary to place the material in columns. Please be sure to include your name as you would like it printed in the Journal, along with your professional position.
For example, John E. Smith, Senior Minister, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Anytown, Kentucky.
The purpose of Biblical Preaching Journal is to provide a forum for biblical preaching.
The format includes an exegesis on one of the readings from the Revised Common Lectionary, followed by a model sermon.
Interplay between exegesis and sermon is critical.
The exegesis should not only sufficiently cover the text, but reflect the direction you have chosen for moving from text to sermon.
Write the sermon as you would deliver it.
Approximate length: exegesis 600-900 words, sermon 1300-2000 words.
Please submit a word processing document as an
e-mail attachment.
Only material accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope can be returned.
Once you are ready to submit your work to Michael W. Mooty, the editor, contact him via e-mail at bpjeditor@deerhaven.com, or at the following postal address:
